Just two months and six days after the Green Bay Packers were founded, LUFC followed suit. The team has had its fair share of glory days, spending the vast majority of their history at the top of the table. Unfortunately, recent years haven't been too kind to Leeds as they try to climb their way back up. They have three Tier One league wins and a FA Cup. Their home ground, Elland Road has been their home from day one and continues to be their home pitch. It was originally the stadium of a prominent rugby club but adopted Leeds as well. The club is often referred to as "The Peacocks" due to "The Old Peacock", a pub which is across from the stadium. Their fans are notable singers and sing "Marching on Together" upon the entrance of the team.
They also historically were a bit rowdy as many fans are, and once earned their team a four-year ban from European competition. Now those are some lads you want on your side. They don't back down from the big dawgs either. Their biggest rival is Manchester United and they also share a rivalry with Chelsea.
Now this may perhaps be the most obvious candidate for my unwavering lifelong support. As much as Crystal Palace wishes it was America, Leeds is America. They recently have developed the moniker "Major Leeds Soccer" under the management of the fiery American, Jesse Marsch. Leeds also boasts two American stars in Brenden Aaronson and Tyler Adams.
As a guy whose previous soccer allegiances were based almost entirely based on American players, this nucleus is a fever dream. Both players are awesome, and Jesse Marsch is an absolute DAWG.
Leeds is on the come up right now. They're young, fun, fast, and American - a great combination. They to me are the plucky upstart underdog who we love to root for. They have the history, and they have rivalries with Man U and Chelsea despite being a "little guy" as of late and I love the chance to play spoiler against a big rival. A worry with middle of the pack teams is that they may come across as boring with nothing to really fight for every year, but Leeds has a history at both ends of the spectrum and lots of potential for excitement. Going into this I planned on avoiding LUFC just because I thought it was the trendy pick, but after research I firmly understand why. So much going for it, this will be tough to beat.
