One of the first blogs I wrote was about my take on the next big sport in America. For those who have yet to read it, I recommend you check it out because it will likely change your life. For the uninformed and unsubscribed Bok Gang Blog fans, the sport I'm referring to is the wonderful game of team handball. Well needless to say, I am the savior of team handball. Members of the handball community who wish to shower me with gifts and praise, I (Team handball Jesus) call you to go out and make disciples of this nation (Sport 3: 16).
I'd say that I officially brought handball back, but it probably was never there to begin with. The US played an IHF World Championship (perhaps the highest handball tournament besides the Olympics) game for the first time in 22 years. The team had qualified the year prior but was unfortunately stricken with Covid and unable to compete. Not only did they qualify, not only did they compete, but for the FIRST TIME IN THE HISTORY OF THE UNIVERSE... we won a goddamn game. I feel this photo accurately represents how I feel right now.
We most certainly did not win the tournament, but for the first time in our history we won a game. We were 0-25 in tournament play prior to this game and finished the tournament 2-27. This is one of those "Where were you" moments in history." We finished 20th out of 32 teams in the tournament. It may not sound great but we're on the map, we're in the hunt, and with a guaranteed qualification for the Olympics in 2028, we're poised to win it all. I've seen multiple articles of people hopping on the bandwagon now, but everyone knows the Bok Gang was their first. Needless to say, I'm that guy. I very clearly have predicted the future and may or may not be the second coming of Nikola Karabatic. The handball train is coming, so you best get on or get run over.
For those interested in personal use of my supernatural abilities, I accept payment in USA Team Handball merchandise and vitamin water. We will continue to spread the culture and one day team handball will be the sixth most popular sport in America. It's an ambitious goal but we'll get there. The handball vindication is only beginning. Until then, stay fresh, (hand)ballers.
Sincerely,
The Johnny Appleseed of Team Handball
